“Therapists must convey to their clients that their paramount task is to build a relationship together that will itself become the agent of change.”

About Ian

(he/him)

Queer Therapist NC North Carolina

One of the most challenging, yet rewarding, obstacles of life is learning how to become our authentic selves and wholly align our internal compass. When we become in sync with our internal compass and seek our relationships and activities aligning with these values, we unlock the potential to flourish in every aspect of life.

Through self-awareness, acceptance, and a small dose of courage, I believe we all have the ability to become the best versions of ourselves.

That is where my role comes into play.

We all need support and encouragement to overcome these obstacles hindering us from becoming our true selves. It is imperative for growth that we continue to consult with our internal compass throughout all stages and transitions in life.

My experience has allowed me to work with a multitude of LGBTQ+ clients with various identities, expressions, age ranges, and relationship matters. I am aware of the many struggles LGBTQ+ folx encounter, whether living in the suburbs or rural environments.

Through our time together, we will address the concerns that brought you to therapy, work through the surrounding issues impacting these concerns, such as trauma and anxiety, while helping you find your inner voice to align with your internal compass to move through these obstacles to refocus on the life YOU want.

As a client-centered therapeutic approach, I often use Internal Family System (IFS) to help you get in touch with the traumatic events experienced in various parts of your mind and body. I also help clients through Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help to help you understand your thought processes behind your behaviors and find better coping skills that fit your goals.

We may also use existential therapy and emotionally-focused therapy to help you find your own unique identity in a society that can sometimes feel confusing.

While working with the LGBTQ+ community is my passion, I am available to work with all gender expressions, sexual orientations, and ages.

Outside of the office, Ian resides in Durham, North Carolina with his spouse and four animals. He enjoys reading, hiking with his family, scoping out the newest coffee shops of the Triangle, and catching up on the latest Marvel movies.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech, a master’s degree in counseling from Radford University, and he has worked in various states across the country serving the LGBTQ+ community.
